UHK Endoscopy Unit Awarded Prestigious JAG Accreditation
University Hospital Kerry (UHK) is delighted to announce that our Endoscopy Unit has achieved full JAG Accreditation following a formal assessment last Friday (23rd May 2025) — a result that was awarded on the day of the visit, with no additional recommendations required. This is an exceptional and rare achievement, reflecting the dedication, quality, and high standards maintained by the Endoscopy Team at UHK.
What is JAG Accreditation?
The Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy sets the standards for high-quality, patient-centered endoscopy services across the UK and Ireland. The accreditation process is thorough and rigorous, involving a comprehensive assessment of the unit’s clinical quality, patient experience, training and education, leadership, and service management.
Achieving JAG Accreditation is a significant milestone for any unit, signifying adherence to the highest levels of clinical and operational excellence. To do so without any conditions or recommendations is even more commendable — it is a standard rarely met, and one that demonstrates the exceptional quality of care being delivered at UHK.
Commitment to Quality and Continuous Improvement
Throughout the assessment process, the UHK Endoscopy team was recognised for their:
High standards of clinical governance and patient safety
Focus on enhancing patient experience and delivering compassionate care
Ongoing staff training and professional development
Strong multidisciplinary collaboration
Culture of continuous improvement and innovation
This recognition is the culmination of years of dedicated effort. Since the opening of the Endoscopy Unit in 2014, the team has worked tirelessly to build a service that puts patients at the centre of everything they do. Their commitment to upholding best practice and pursuing excellence has now been formally recognised at the highest level.
A Moment of Pride for UHK
We are incredibly proud of our Endoscopy Team, who represent the very best of healthcare in Kerry. Their achievement not only enhances the reputation of UHK, but also reinforces our hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class care locally.
On behalf of everyone at University Hospital Kerry, we extend our warmest congratulations to the entire Endoscopy Team. Your work continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of patients across the region — and now, it has received the recognition it so richly deserves.
