General Medicine is the area of medicine which focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of internal diseases. General Medical services aim to provide timely access for patients with acute or general medical problems based on clinical needs.

Key Services

UHK’S General Medicine Department treats a large range of illnesses and disorders. Our specialist consultants have an abundance of experience and are backed by the full services of University Hospital Kerry. In order to provide timely and appropriate access for patients, medical patients can be seen acutely in the Acute floor via the Emergency department and in the Acute Medical Assessment via the Emergency department. Patients can also be managed in Discharge to Assess pathways whereby urgent investigations are prioritised to take place as Outpatients with follow-up management plans within a short time frame. Outpatient assessments can take place in Rapid Access Clinics, urgent or routine medical outpatients.
