Respiratory
The Respiratory Service at UHK provides expert outpatient and inpatient services in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic respiratory disorders. A specialist Respiratory Physician was appointed in 2022.
Key Services
At UHK a diverse range of conditions are managed, treated and/or referred to our tertiary centre where appropriate. Conditions treated include asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), lung cancer, respiratory infections (including tuberculosis), cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, occupational lung disease, pulmonary vascular disease, sleep-related breathing disorders, in addition to acute and chronic respiratory failure.
The consultant-led team of doctors works alongside experienced nurses and specialist physiotherapists to provide inpatient care to those patients with acute respiratory deteriorations as well as consultation services to patients admitted under other UHK teams. Regular specialist outpatient clinics are being established and the service will be formally expanded to accept GP referrals when the specialist consultant commences in Q3 2022.
