Inspiring Study Day on Caring for Children with Life-Limiting Conditions Held in Kerry

On the 29th of May, the Rose Hotel in Tralee hosted a profoundly impactful event – the ‘Level A – Caring for a Child with a Life Limiting Condition’ study day. This event highlighted the incredible efforts being made in Kerry and across the Ireland to support children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, both in hospitals and within the community.

  • Organised by Priscilla Lyons, Specialist Coordinator Midwifery at Kerry CNME, Jane Garland, CCNE Coordinator of Level A/Level B Courses, and Karen Lovett, Clinical Nurse Coordinator for children with life-limiting conditions in Kerry, the day was a resounding success.

  • It showcased the collaborative spirit and dedication of healthcare professionals committed to improving the quality of life for these young patients and their families.

We are deeply grateful for the support provided by the ‘Cashel Ward Fund’, which made this event possible. This fund, sustained by the generous donations from families who have received care in the paediatric facilities of University Hospital Kerry, plays a crucial role in facilitating such important initiatives.

A heartfelt thank you to Ger and Mary, parents of Tadgh Costello, who passed away in October 2021. They shared their family’s journey with us, providing invaluable insights and touching the hearts of everyone present with their eloquent and brave recounting of their experiences.

The study day served not only as an educational platform but also as a testament to the strong community and the compassionate care being extended to children with life-limiting conditions in Kerry and beyond. Thank you to everyone who contributed to and participated in this meaningful event. Together, we continue to make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.
